Asia’s first butterfly safari park at Thenmala – Kerala, India


Thenmala, the first eco-tourism project in India and Asia’s first butterfly safari park. The artificially created 3.5 hectare park is designed by the Kerala Forest Research Institute . 125 species of butterflies have already been sighted in the park. To boost the feeding and breeding of the butterflies, microhabitats with special shrubs and trees have been formed. The park has roosting plants and host plants that provide the right leafy meal to caterpillar species and plants with leaves which butterflies depend on for their alkaloid requirements. Models of butterflies and display boards dot the garden that could be a great learning experience for students. The Park is touted as Asia's first Butterfly Safari Park. Karnataka has a smaller part at Bannerghatta Biological Park near Bangalore. Butterfly gardens are being maintained in many countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and United Kingdom. Canada has a major facility near Niagara Falls.

Ramayana Masam

Visiting to NALAMBALAM in this sacred month is very important. Sree Rama Swami Temple at Sree Ramapuram, Bharata Swami Temple at Amanakara, Lekshmanan Swami Temple at Koodapulam and Sathrukhna Swami Temple at Mothiri are the four important temples to visit at this sacred month. It will take only two and half to three hours to visit all these temples. It is only 3 kms from Sree Rama Swami temple to reach Lekshmana Swami Temple and 3 kms to reach Bharatha Swami Temple and 2.5 kms to reach Sathrukhana Swami Temple. All these temples are situated at Ramapuram in Kottayam District, Kerala. It is strongly believed that by visiting all these temples before uchapooja (afternoon Pooja) will remove all your doshas.

Other four important temples to visit in this holy month are, 1). Sree Rama Temple at Triprayar is dedicated to Lord Ram, 2). Koodalmanickam Bharatha Temple at Irinjalakuda is dedicated to Bharatha Swami, 3). Lakshmana Temple at Moozhikkulam is dedicated to Lakshman Swami and 4). Shathrughna Temple at Payammel is dedicated to Shathrughna Swami. All these ancient temples are south of Guruvayur Sri Krishna Swami Temple and comes in an order – temple of eldest brother Ram first and temple of youngest brother last.
